Biopic films depict true stories of events or people like performers, scientists, leaders of movement, artists, war heroes, gangsters or anyone particular event or person with an extraordinary story.
Biopic films were around since the early days of cinema like Jeanne D'Arc (1899), Jesse James (1927) and Napoleon (1927). Biopic films were common in throughout the film industry though more than ever true stories are popular in current cinema as they are always rated highly in film industry; for example three biopic films were nominated in the last Academy Awards, them being Selma, The Theory of Everything and The Imitation Game.
The reason these films appealed to audiences either because the character or events were all ready established in peoples memories like war or famous people e.g. Ray, Gandhi, The Theory of Everything, Selma or they're overly extravagant stories of people that we know little to nothing about like Goodfellas, Schindler's List, The Imitation Game.

Martin Scorsese one of the most respected and talented directors in the film industry with many outstanding films both fiction and true. Scorsese has made many biopic films, one of his Earliest and most famous is Raging Bull about a middleweight boxer then later on his most famous invention Goodfellas. Other films he has done are: Casino, Kundun, The Aviator and The Wolf of Wall Street. All his later films like The Wolf of Wall Street have been nominated and still get nominated. His types of films are really gritty and masculine and most of all profane, as The Wolf of Wall Street has the record of most F-words in film history. Even now he is to direct a film about Frank Sinatra the famous singer and actor. |
